Be Kind, Rewind: Re-imagining the ideal multidiciplinary approach to MSK Care.

23 Nov 2023
MSK Breakout Room 1

Structure:

  • Introduction:  Perspectives on MDT working
    • NL - Rehab
    • GH - Primary care (The future workforce etc)
  • Case discussions:
    • (The sliding doors analogy) Presenting a hypothetical individual who has come unstuck in their care and facing problems; the facilitator will then 'rewind' the patients journey back to a point (perhaps months previously) when there was the potential for them to have taken a different (better) path. At this point delegates are invited to construct the perfect team
    • SWOT Analysis with the aim to identify potential barriers and how they might be overcome as well as areas that are 'unknowns' e.g., benefits system, housing, access to nutrition advice etc
    • Case 1 (GH): Tendinopathy with metabolic comorbidities - issues with obesity, cvd health risk, education round long-term rehab etc
    • Case 2 (NL): Back pain
  • Summing up
    • Identify key take homes

Objectives:

  • Outline the benefits of MDT working in different environments (primary/secondary care)
  • Consider the role of early intervention/effective MDT working to improve outcomes - avoiding the drift into chronicity
  • Consider how systems can/need to evolve to better serve our clientele
    • including clinician, local and national service changes
Speakers
Dr Giles Hazan, GP with Extended Role in MSK Medicine - Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust
Dr. Neil Langridge, Director of Clinical and Rehabilitation Services - AECC University College
