Breakout session: injection therapy as a 'window of opportunity' for rehabilitation: truth or myth?
Who is this for: This interactive breakout session welcomes all MSK multi-professionals including both injection therapists and non- injection therapists
Background: There is credible evidence suggesting that musculoskeletal (MSK) injection therapy, particularly corticosteroid injections, can create a temporary reduction in pain and inflammation, which may facilitate more effective rehabilitation. This concept is often referred to as a “window of opportunity” (WOO). However, the idea of a WOO is not universally applicable and can be overused or misinterpreted: Some critics argue that WOO is sometimes a self-serving justification for transiently effective treatments.
In this interactive breakout session, Diane and Sharon invite you to join an open discussion: Is injection therapy as a WOO a clinical truth—or a convenient myth?
Together, we’ll explore the evidence, challenge assumptions, and consider how best to integrate injection therapy within a rehabilitation framework.

Highlight:
1. Selecting the Right Patient
Explore current best practices in identifying appropriate candidates for injection therapy. We'll examine indications, contraindications, and clinical cautions, plus what's new in patient stratification.

2. Timing Matters: When to Introduce WOO
Delve into evidence for optimal timing for Window of Opportunity (WOO) interventions. What does the latest research reveal about timing and clinical decision-making?

3. Rehabilitation Matters: Integrating Injection Therapy for Better Outcomes
Consider how strategic integration of injection therapy can enhance rehabilitation outcomes. We'll discuss practical approaches to optimise patient’s outcome and personalised care.

4. Injection Therapy as a WOO for Rehabilitation: Truth or Myth?
Challenge prevailing assumptions and explore whether injection therapy truly creates a WOO, or if it's a myth? Evidence, experience, and debate converge.
