A new healthtech startup is making private healthcare as easy to book as a haircut.

In an age where we can book a taxi, takeaway or hotel in seconds, some industries are still stuck in the past. That’s what inspired Altrincham-based entrepreneur Wesley Clarke-Sullivan to create MediMo, a new online platform that makes it much quicker and easier to find and book private healthcare appointments.

Phoning receptionists and filling out online forms then waiting days to hear back is still the norm for much of the private healthcare sector. With MediMo, you simply enter your postcode, choose the service you need, and instantly see who’s available nearby. You can compare providers by rating, price or distance and book your appointment in moments.

The idea came after Wesley was made redundant from his remote role as a marketing manager. “I wanted to turn this set back into an opportunity, so I decided to start a business of my own,” says Wesley. “A friend working in private health insurance pointed out how challenging the booking process can be for many people. Once I established there really was a gap in the market, it was full steam ahead.”

MediMo has started with a focused approach: launching in Greater Manchester with three high-demand services that don’t require a GP referral; physiotherapy, chiropractic and osteopathy. “We’ve been live for nearly two months and getting our first bookings through has been really exciting! Most of them have been ‘same day’ appointments which is brilliant to see.”

With NHS waiting times at record highs, more people are turning to private care, but many still don’t know where to start. According to the Independent Healthcare Providers Network, 43% of people say they’re unfamiliar with how to access private healthcare. Choosing a healthcare provider can be an overwhelming decision. MediMo aims to take some of the stress out of it, by offering real-time availability, transparent pricing and trusted Google ratings, all in one place.

Matthew Glancy from BDC Health in Altrincham, one of the first chiropractic practices to join MediMo, said: "We’ve already seen new patient referrals come through MediMo, and the support so far has been brilliant. It’s great to see a platform making private healthcare more accessible and efficient for patients.”
