Okoro is not most athletes. Born in Stonebridge, North West London, Okoro knew from an early age that there was more to life than the adversity she faced; “I remember thinking life around me seemed really depressing, there must be more to life, for me, than this’. It is this tenacious and resilient nature that fuelled the Two time Olympian and National Record Holder, to leave no stone un-turned when it came to her injury status.
In spite of two missed seasons, Marilyn is determined to see out her career ‘on her terms’. Thankfully, Marilyn’s persistence was to pay off. In June of 2018, she had discovered Shockwave Therapy administered by EMS Shockwave Specialist, Jonathan Wride. After four shockwave sessions, that glimmer of hope Marilyn had so desperately clung to, was now looking brighter than ever. With one less (major) obstacle in her path, Marilyn is now back running PAIN and RESTRICTION FREE, able to chase her dream of a third Team GB appearance at the Tokyo 2020 Games.
