Matthew Low is a Consultant Physiotherapist at University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust and Visiting Fellow at Health Sciences and Bournemouth Universities.
He has over two decades of clinical experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, with particular interests in spinal pain, clinical reasoning, and the translation of theory into practice. In 2024, he was an inaugural recipient of the Chief Allied Health Professions Officer’s Gold Award for Excellence from NHS England.
He has contributed to research and education initiatives, including the CLEAT trial for hip osteoarthritis and the development of Health Education England’s Complex Clinical Reasoning e-learning programme.
Matthew has published in peer-reviewed journals and contributed to textbooks such as Petty’s Principles of Musculoskeletal Practice and Grieve’s Modern Manual Therapy. He regularly teaches on postgraduate courses and supervises clinicians undertaking Advanced practice training.
In his Consultant role, he supports clinical governance, service quality, and Advanced practice development. He is a non-medical prescriber and continues to manage a complex musculoskeletal caseload.
Matthew is a member of the Musculoskeletal Association of Chartered Physiotherapists, the Critical Physiotherapy Network, and the APPN.
